Shabnam Gupta

A Mumbai-based interior designer, Shabnam conjures up visual wonders and is recognised for her personally tailored, client specific interiors that use bursts of colours, textures and other unique elements within a contemporary design palette. Her signature style has won her global recognition, in the form of the International Property Award in the Residential and Hospitality categories that she was awarded in 2014, only the latest in a long list of accolades she has received for her projects at the national level. These include being listed as one of the top 10 designers to watch out for by Forbes India 2010 and Elle Club 2012 and being felicitated as one of Architects and Interiors i-Gen – India’s top 50 Interior Designers.

A graduate in Interior Design, Shabnam honed her skills in various architectural and design projects, before setting up her own private firm, The Orange Lane in 2003. Driven by her energetic style and spirit, the label grew steadily in stature, getting her prestigious projects, initially in the city and later across the country.

She is also the leading force behind Peacock Life, a retail venture offering designer furniture, lifestyle and interior products. It has two physical stores and an online retail presence through well known portals such as Amazon, eBay and Flipkart. Today, after 14 years in the business, Shabnam is recognised as one of India’s leading interior designers. She was part of the country’s first ever home make over TV show on NDTV GOODTIMES and has also been featured on Luxe Interiors. She has also been named as one of the top designers by Vogue and her works have been published in 50 most beautiful homes of India for the International market.

Urban Mantra

Shabnam has developed her own unique style, but she has adapted it across categories and cultures. From urban residential to weekend countryside homes, and from lifestyle stores to hospitality projects, her canvas of work encompasses a wide spectrum. She has created an environment of trust with her clients, utilised her close relationships with traders and executed detailed project management, all making for a seamless project experience.

The design spectrum too has an international flavour to it – having created an American experience at The Brooklyn Shuffle, Pune; lent an Oriental touch to the popular pub Jimmy Hu also at Pune; interpreted the complex cultural essence of Mumbai at The Bombay Bronx; or reinvented the ambience of all things dangerous into a pulsating bistro, The Big Nasty in Mumbai.

More recently, Shabnam has begun to leave her mark on the international arena as well. She was on the panel of speakers at the prestigious Global Economic Summit India, sharing the dais with dignitaries and stalwarts from their respective fields and countries and was one of the invitees at The Oriental Design Week 2014, Turin.

This year she has been invited to showcase eclectic interiors’ products at the upcoming Salone 2015, a part of the Milan Design Week.

She is now creating fresh design stories for clients around the globe.
